3.8 g of potassium permanganate, 12.6 g of oxalic acid and 5.1 g of potassium oxalate are placed in a beaker, which is immersed in an ice bath. 200 g of ice is added to the mixture and itis stirred manually. After an evolution of carbon dioxide is seen and almost all of the ice has been melted, the mixture is filtered. The filtrate is precipitated with ethanol, filtered and the residue is dried in a desiccator over phosphorous pentoxide.
