Synthesis of Copper(II) sulfide

2.5 g of copper sulfate is dissolved in 50 mL of water and 2.5 g of ≥60% sodium sulfide is dissolved in 20 mL of water, both solutions are then combined with some manual stirring. The mixture is filtered, washed with water and left to dry in open air.

CuSO4 ⋅ 5H2O + Na2S ⋅ 3H2O = CuS+ Na2SO4 + 8 H2O
