Synthesis of Copper(II) aspirinate


9 g of acetylsalicylic acid is dissolved in 70 mL of near-boiling water, whereto a slow addition of 3 g of basic copper carbonate is started with stirring. After the addition is complete the mixture is heated and stirred for 1o minutes, then filtered. The crude product is combined with 100 mL of near-boiling isopropyl alcohol and stirred for 10 minutes, the mixture is then filtered and washed with isopropyl alcohol.
