Synthesis of 3,4-Diaminofurazan

In a beaker 24 g of diaminoglyoxime is dissolved in a solution made from 9 g of KOH and 76 mL of water, the contents are poured into a stainless steel reactor and heated at 170-180°C for 3.5 in an oil bath. The reactor is left to cool down and the mixture is filtered. The crude product is recrystallized with hot ethanol. (Using a microwave reactor instead of the oil bath may give 30% more product.)
