Synthesis of Copper Chromite

Dissolve 12.6 g of ammonium dichromate in 32 mL of water then add 42 mL of 10% ammonia. Dissolve 25 g of copper sulfate in 60 mL of water and with vigorous stirring, combine both solutions. Stir for 5 minutes and filter, then transfer the filtered sludge to a drying plate. Dry in a hot water bath. Heat the powder in a crucible at 400°C for 15 minutes with some stirring. Then combine the black powder with 200 mL of 30% acetic acid, stir for 30 minutes, filter and wash with 100 mL of water. Then dry the copper chromite catalyst.

2CuSO4 + K2Cr2O7 + 4NH3 + 3H2O = 2Cu(OH)NH4CrO4 + K2SO4 + (NH4)2SO4

2Cu(OH)NH4CrO4 = CuO + CuCr2O4 + 5H2O
