40 g of dry ground nutmeg is added to 60 mL of nearly boiling ethanol and stirred vigorously for 30 seconds. Then the mixture is filtered and the filtrate is collected. The procedure is repeated 3 times and the extracts are combined. During the final filtration, the residue is washed with 20 mL of hot ethanol. The solution is then placed in a freezer to crystallize the crude product out, filtered and then recrystallized from hot ethanol.
